Treyarch are responsible for the next Call of Duty title and rumours of a Cold War based game have been circulating for months. Today the developers finally announced through a teaser trailer titled “Know Your History” that the next Call of Duty will in fact be based in the Cold War era.
The trailer takes us back to a real life television interview with KGB defector, Yuri Bezmenov. In the interview he describes how the Soviet Union plans to slowly undermine the United States, with long term plans spreading over decades to infiltrate and destabilise America.
While Bezmenov is speaking, we are shown flashes of different parts of American Cold War history including the Vietnam War, Civil Rights protests and speeches given by Ronald Reagan.
The new Call of Duty will be the latest in Treyarch’s Black Ops series. It is unknown how it is going to fit into the series timeline just yet. However, it is safe to assume that it will bring us backwards in time and away from Treyarch’s future based games like Black Ops 3 and 4. Furthermore, it is unknown if it is going to provide an alternate history to what actually occurred within the Cold War in order to match up with the other titles in the Black Ops series.
The trailer ends with the reveal that the next Call of Duty title will be Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War. On top of this, it showed that the game will be revealed in full on August 26th 2020.
