Damwon Gaming claimed the top spot in the LCK standings during the regular season and directly qualified for the finals. They were dominant throughout the split and went on a ten game win streak to close out the regular season. DRX on the other hand, started the split in a strong fashion but faltered a bit towards the end of the regular season and entered the playoffs as the second seed. DRX qualified for worlds after beating Gen. G with a 3-2 scoreline in round 2 of the playoffs. So, a win for DRX in the finals would result in Gen. G qualifying for Worlds 2020 as the second seed from Korea and send DWG to the regional gauntlet.

DWG entered the finals as the overwhelming favorites against DRX. DWG has four players in the All-Pro LCK team of the split and Heo “ShowMaker” Su won the summer split MVP award as well. They also finished 1st in all major categories and their average game time is the lowest among all teams in the LCK. On the other hand, Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon of DRX was the player of the series against Gen. G in round 2 of the playoffs and has been in excellent form.

Damwon Gaming beat DRX with a scoreline of 3-0 on the day and booked their ticket to the World Championships in Shanghai. Though the LPL and LEC teams in recent years have put in strong performances on the Worlds stage, this first seed from Korea has to be feared and respected with especially how dominant they have been throughout the summer split. Damwon Gaming have an MVP midlaner, a dominant toplaner and a reliable botside and after winning their first LCK title, will now set their eyes on the Worlds Trophy and try to make a deep run in the competition this time round after losing to G2 in 2019 in the quarter-finals.

The last seed from Korea will be the regional gauntlet winner. Gen. G, T1, Afreeca Freecs and KT Rolster are all fighting for that last Worlds spot. The regional gauntlet winner will be crowned in the coming week.
